IIT Delhi Achieves 118th Rank in QS World University Rankings 2027 — India’s Highest
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has once again emerged as India’s best-ranked education and research institution, securing the 118th position globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027, announced on June 18, 2026. This represents an improvement of five positions from last year’s 123rd rank, and it equals the highest global position ever achieved by an Indian institution in the QS rankings.
The QS World University Rankings 2027 assessed more than 1,500 universities across 106 countries and territories, making it one of the most comprehensive higher education evaluations in the world. A total of 52 Indian universities featured in this year’s rankings, reflecting the growing global footprint of India’s higher education system.
Over the last four years, IIT Delhi has improved its global ranking by an impressive 79 positions — from 197th in QSWUR 2024 to 118th in QSWUR 2027. Several performance indicators contributed to this climb. The Institute’s Employer Reputation jumped 11 positions to reach 39th globally, a metric that measures how employers worldwide perceive the quality of graduates from an institution. In Employment Outcomes, IIT Delhi recorded a remarkable improvement of 60 positions, reflecting the employability and leadership potential of its alumni. The Citations per Faculty indicator also improved by 26 positions, signalling the growing impact and quality of the Institute’s research output.
“IIT Delhi remains committed to providing world-class affordable technological education and becoming a preferred destination for scholars worldwide,” said Prof. Somnath Baidya Roy, Dean, Planning, and Head, Ranking Cell, IIT Delhi. “We see rankings as an outcome, not an objective. If we do the right things for the right reasons, rankings will follow naturally.”
In March 2026, the QS World University Rankings by Subject were announced, in which several IIT Delhi engineering subjects registered remarkable improvement. Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering emerged as global top-50 subjects. IIT Delhi also achieved a global rank of 36 in the Engineering and Technology category, continuing as India’s top institute in that domain.

India to Host 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram
India will host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting on 25–26 June 2026 in Gurugram, Haryana, under its BRICS Chairship 2026. This marks India’s fourth time holding the BRICS Chairship, following earlier tenures in 2012, 2016, and 2021.
The meeting will bring together Energy Ministers and senior officials from all 11 BRICS member countries — Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Together, these nations account for nearly half of the world’s population and around 40 percent of global GDP.
India’s BRICS Chairship in 2026 carries the overarching theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS).” Under the Energy Track, India has adopted the theme “सर्वेषां ऊर्जम् (Energy for All),” reflecting the shared commitment of BRICS nations to ensuring universal energy access.
India’s Presidency has structured the BRICS Energy Agenda around three broad priorities:
- Energy Security and Sustainability
- Energy Access and Equity
- Technology and Innovation
As the world’s third-largest producer and consumer of electricity, India views the meeting as an opportunity to showcase its energy transformation. Over the past decade, India has expanded its solar power capacity by more than 50 times, deployed over 60 million smart meters, and set a target of achieving 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032. India has also achieved 20 percent ethanol blending and recently rolled out E85 fuel, a high-ethanol blend containing 80–85 percent ethanol.
At the global level, India has emerged as a leading advocate for clean energy cooperation through initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
Nirbhay Chetna Training Module Launched — World’s Largest Gender Sensitisation Campaign
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj organised a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on Nirbhay Chetna from 17th to 19th June 2026 in New Delhi and launched the Nirbhay Chetna training module under the Nirbhaya Fund project. Recognised as the largest drive of its kind anywhere in the world, Nirbhay Chetna is a landmark national initiative focused on the sensitisation of men towards women-related issues, including women’s safety and security.
The initiative aims to strengthen gender-responsive governance at the grassroots level through Panchayati Raj Institutions. It seeks to create a cadre of master trainers who will engage male elected representatives on gender equality, women’s safety, rights, and leadership.
The pilot batch comprised around 40 master trainers from six states — Assam, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Uttarakhand — and will serve as the foundation for a cascading training model to be expanded across all states and Union Territories.
Nirbhay Chetna is a key intervention under the Nirbhay Raho initiative, launched on 11th March 2026, which comprises three complementary components:
- Nirbhay Netri — Capacity-building and legal awareness among elected women representatives
- Nirbhay Chetna — Sensitisation of elected male representatives on gender equality and women’s safety
- Nirbhay Drishti — Installation of CCTV cameras at strategic rural locations to strengthen technology-enabled safety infrastructure in Panchayats
Under Nirbhay Chetna, a cadre of 28,500 Master Trainers is being developed at the state, district, and block levels to reach over 17.5 lakh male elected representatives across the country.
Addressing the inaugural session, Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, said, “The vision of Viksit Bharat cannot be realised without ensuring the safety, dignity, and equal participation of women.” He highlighted the pivotal role of Panchayats as institutions of social and democratic transformation.

UAE Sets Minimum Age of 15 for Personal Social Media Accounts
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a sweeping new regulation fixing 15 years as the minimum age for creating and using personal social media accounts, making it one of the first countries in the Arab world to establish such a comprehensive nationwide framework.
The UAE Cabinet resolution applies to all major social media platforms operating in or targeting users in the UAE, including Meta’s Facebook and Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and others. Children below the age of 15 are prohibited from creating, using, or operating personal accounts on social media platforms. They are also prohibited from accessing full features of such platforms, including social interaction, publishing, commenting, sharing, joining public groups, open channels, or any large-scale interactive spaces.
For those aged 15 to under 16, access is allowed subject to enhanced protections, including restrictions on certain high-risk features, stronger content safeguards, parental tools, and tighter controls on interactions.
A key component of the resolution is the requirement for platforms to implement effective and reliable age-verification mechanisms. These must be accurate, proportionate, and privacy-conscious. Approved methods include digital identity verification, official ID-based checks, biometric or AI-supported age estimation, and licensed age-verification providers. Self-declaration of age alone is not sufficient.
The resolution provides a 12-month transition period for platforms to align their systems and operations before full implementation. Non-compliance may result in administrative penalties, partial blocking, or full blocking of platforms.

RBI Exempts Long-Term NRE Deposits from CRR and SLR Requirements
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has exempted banks from maintaining Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) and Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) on fresh Non-Resident (External) Rupee (NRE) term deposits with a tenor of three years or more, mobilised between 19 June 2026 and 30 September 2026.
The RBI had earlier announced a similar exemption for fresh 3–5 year Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) [FCNR(B)] deposits, as part of its temporary measures to attract foreign capital inflows.
Under existing norms, banks are required to maintain a CRR of 3 percent and an SLR of 18 percent of their deposits. The exemption allows banks to deploy the entire proceeds of eligible deposits without maintaining these reserve requirements.
The move is expected to enable banks to offer higher interest rates on eligible NRE and FCNR(B) deposits, improve foreign currency inflows, enhance liquidity, and support credit growth in the economy.
